Not all children have the option to develop a musical talent; however, research has pointed to the fact that children that do, are more likely to develop certain skills than those who don’t. Early experimentation and development of music skills promotes learning and communication traits. It is also know to help children develop self expression and individuality. Although your child can study at the kitchen table, there are often distractions that arise deterring him or her from devoting their full attention to their education. Providing a quiet and secluded area for your child to study will be beneficial in the sense that, they will be able to develop concentration skills while devoting their full attention to their work. So to answer your question, yes, it is helpful in promoting academic success.
Do you know of any “at home” projects I can introduce to my children?
There are many different options available for entertainment at the home; however, one of my personal favorites is putting on a puppet show. Develop a story line, and use a brown paper sack to make characters that will be involved in the play. Creating a script will help children with their communication and organizational skills, and the puppets will serve as a creative outlet. So not only will this activity be fun, but it will also promote healthy traits for your children to develop.
